PEHAWAR, June 1: A poor man of Tahkal Payan on Saturday blamed the Bhana Mari police for brutally killing his 16-year-old son in a fake encounter after implicating him in burglary.
Misal Khan, who is a ward orderly at Khyber Teaching Hospital, said at a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club that his son, Kashmir Khan, had gone along with four persons on May 12. “ When he did not return till night I started a search for him”, he said.
“ For two days, I visited all the hospitals and houses of the relatives and his friends, but in vain,” he said and added that when on May he went to the Bhana Mari Police Station, they informed him that his son was killed in a police encounter, as he was a known burglar.
“ When I asked for proof, the police handed me over the copy of an FIR in which my son’s name was mentioned as Kasim Wardag,” the sad father maintained with tears in his eyes.
Misal Khan said the police had intentionally registered the name of Kasim Wardag in the FIR, as he was a notorious burglar with a long criminal record.
A constable of Bhana Mari Police Station, Abdul Malik, stated in the FIR that he was on routine patrol in the Qazi Javed Quarters area of Sikandar Khan Ghari when people had informed him about the burglars presence in the house of Sardar Wali.
The constable claimed that when the police party tried to enter the house, all the five criminals started firing at them. The police returned fire and injured Kasim Wardag — son of Misal Khan —, and later arrested him. But his four accomplices managed to fled, he added.
The father alleged: “ After the arrest, they took Kashmir Khan to the police station and then brought him back to Qazi Javed Quarters to stage the encounter. There he was fired upon, but he survived even receiving several bullets. They did not stop at that and detained badly injured Kashmir Khan until he died due to excessive bleeding.”
In reply to a question, he said, “ People of the area and some of my friends in the police department have confirmed all my suspicions.”
The father demanded of NWFP Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah and NWFP Police Inspector General Saeed Khan to form an inquiry commission and provide him justice.
