KARACHI, Feb 5: Two persons were shot dead during a musical programme in Banaras Colony late in Wednesday night. Police said that Mohammad Gul, 30 and Javed, 28, suffered serious injuries when one Mohammad Amin opened fire at them during the programme in Al-Wajid Colony in Pirabad police limits.
The police said that the suspect escaped from the spot after firing.
Both the injured were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
The police said that Javed had a dispute with Amin over some monetary matter, who, under the influence of alcohol, opened fire at Javed from a close range. The bullet pierced through Javed's body, also killing Gul, who was standing behind Javed.
Javed was a resident of Bismallah Colony and had five children, whereas Gul had six children, the police said.
Police are conducting raids to arrest the suspect.
A businessman was shot dead in the premises of a residential complex in Bahadurabad late in Thursday night by an unknown armed man.
New Town police said that Mohammad Hussain alias Baboo, 50, had come from South Africa, where he owned an audio-cassette manufacturing unit and was to return on Friday.
The police said Hussain, who lived in an apartment in Farrukh Heights in Bahadurabad, returned to the building and as he was about to enter an elevator, an unknown man shot two bullets into his head and fled. He died on the spot and his body was shifted to a hospital for autopsy.
ACTIVIST KILLED: An activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement was shot dead by some unidentified men in Korangi Industrial Area on late Wednesday night.
Police said that the victim, who was later identified as Nooruddin, 25, on Thursday, was kidnapped by unknown men near his residence in Korangi No.3 on Wednesday. His body was recovered from a ground in K-area, from a vehicle, having a bullet wound in his head on Wednesday night.
The body was shifted to the JPMC for the post-mortem examination, following which it was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification, the police said.
Victim's family members identified the body on Thursday at the Edhi morgue, the police added.
DIES IN LOCKUP: A suspect booked under drug cases by Kalakot police died in the police lockup on Thursday morning.
Police claimed that Yousaf alias Kaloo, 32, was arrested by the Kalakot police on Feb 2 for carrying 15 small packets of heroin near the Alibagh graveyard.
An FIR, 28/2004, was lodged against him at the Kalakot police station. However, due to shortage of space, he was lodged in the lockup of Baghdadi police station, where he died on early Thursday morning, the police claimed.
The police further claimed that Yousaf had complained of his poor health and was examined by a doctor, but he was found dead in the police lockup early morning. The suspect himself was a drug addict, the police claimed.
