KARACHI, Jan 31: Shaista Almani was on Saturday appointed police constable, a spokesman for the Sindh police said on Saturday.
In a statement faxed Dawn, he said that according to the article 7(3) of the Police Order 2002, appearing in the public service commission examination was mandatory for the post of assistant sub-inspector.
However, he said necessary procedure was being adopted to appoint Shaista as ASI, and it would take time. He maintained that constable Shaista Almani had been given official residence in the police lines.
The appointment letter was handed over to her at the Women Police Station by a senior police official on Saturday, said Shaista's sister Perveen Almani.
She, however, said the house promised by Chief Minister Ali Mahar had not yet been given to them. The official who gave Shaista the appointment order, assured her that the house would also be provided to her soon, said Perveen.
She said Shaista, who had been taken to hospital a few days back after she fell sick, had recovered.
Perveen said she would continue her job in the Population Welfare Department, provided to her by Imtiaz Shaikh. She said Shaista would resign from the Population Welfare Department.
Responding to Dawn questions from Pano Aqil, Mehnaz, another sister of Shaista's, said that owing to the psychological pressures, Shaista's blood pressure had dipped, for which she was taken to the hospital.
She said her sister Perveen, brother Zubair, and father staying with Shaista would soon be shifted from the police station to the house to be given to them by the police. She said her other sisters, a brother and mother, were living in her Jamshoro house.
