KARACHI, Jan 24: The Pakistan Naval headquarters, on Saturday, ordered an inquiry into the incident in which a traffic police official was roughed up on Sharae Faisal by Pakistan Navy men on Friday.
In a press release issued by the Inter-services Public Relations Directorate, Naval Headquarters, the navy spokesman said that traffic jams and mismanagement at the under construction flyover near FTC had become a regular feature despite the presence of a number of traffic policemen there.
He said the disorganized traffic had resulted in an incident on Friday evening, which was "misquoted in some newspapers". However, the Pakistan Navy had ordered an inquiry to investigate the matter, he added.
According to traffic police officials and witnesses, a Toyota Hi-Ace of PNS Iqbal (48321), violated a traffic signal near FTC on Sharae Faisal.
An on-duty traffic police constable Ghulam Haider tried to stop the vehicle for violating the traffic signal, which provoked the navy men, who thrashed Haider and injured another policeman.
Police officials said that Ghulam Haider was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment. Another policeman Rana Khalid, who had his hand broken, was shifted to a private orthopaedic clinic.
