SUKKUR, May 31: The Governor of Sindh, Mohammedmian Soomro, said here on Friday that the Civil Defence and other organizations had already been directed to remain alert to meet any eventuality in the face of any aggression against the country.

“Preparations are in final stage and people are ready to give India a befitting reply if war is imposed on Pakistan,” the governor observed while talking to newsmen at the Public School auditorium here after addressing the 6th annual district convention, organized by the Lions International.

He said that the people of Sindh were prepared to defend the country alongside the armed forces.

Referring to the water shortage, the governor noted that the situation had improved following the recent rains. He said that the province was getting its due share.

About the greater Thal canal project, he pointed out that it was part of the 1991 accord and Sindh, being a signatory, had no objection on it’s construction.

To a question, the governor said there was no ban now on the recruitments in Sindh and all vacancies were being filled on merit.

Turning to the illegal immigration, Mr Soomro said that the federal and provincial governments were conducting a survey jointly to look into the claim of foreigners’ influx.

Regarding extradition of criminals to and from other countries, the governor said the matter was being handled by the federal government.

Replying to a question about Kalabagh dam project, he said that the same had been shelved for want of a national consensus.

Calling for unity among people from all walks of life, the governor said that the government was in touch with all the religious and political leaders in the greater interest of the country.

In these critical moments when the country is facing a serious threat from the enemy, we should shun our differences and forge unity among our ranks to foil the nefarious designs of our enemy, he added.
