LAHORE, April 9: Four-year-old chestnut English filly, Golden Drift, who is credited with remarkable performances at present, is fancied to win the PIA 777 Super Jet Pakistan Cup to be run over 1600m during the Lahore Winter Meeting in a tri-star battle royale at the Racecourse on Sunday afternoon.

With the purse of rupees quarter million, the cup event is one of the richest term races for combined Pakistani and foreign horses.

As the name indicates the cup has been sponsored by the National Carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Of the eight contenders, three come into reckoning. They are: Golden Drift, I M Dancing and Al Hattab.

But Golden Drift, who was beaten by four-year-old English filly, I M Dancing in the race run on terrific speed Sunday last, should make amends this time.

Though its a term race but there had been a much difference in handicap between the weights assigned to both the fillies now.

The seven-year-old English horse, Al Hattab, who was placed second behind Golden drift, will be attempting to run better than his previous outing on March 20.

However, it promises to be a thrilling imported three-star encounter, the likes of which would seldom be seen. This will be the sixth race of the eight event card.

The fifth and supporting event, the Muridke Plate, a class IV division I handicap race to have gone over 1400m looks to be a one-horse race, the three-year-old filly, Victory Road on target to smash a victory in her favour.

By virtue of her being placed second behind Tora Bora Last Sunday, Victory road stands out among her nine Lilliputian like rivals. But what her owner thinks about her matters most.

Four-year-old colt, Stereo Nation and Six-year-old gelding, Young Emperor may put Victory Road some token challenge, if there is any.

A fanciful card of eight events will be down for decision in the afternoon programme in which ninety runners have been declared to compete, barring last minute withdrawals.

Four events will be going over the sprinting distance of 1000m, one 1200m, two 1400m and one the feature event to have gone over 1600m make the card look interesting.

Meanwhile the Lahore Race Club has revived the Straight Four Jack Pot in which a punter is required to correctly name winners of four races, prior to the running of the first of the four races.

Under orders of the LRC chairman, Tariq Aziz, the club has put in rupees twenty thousand (Rs 20,000) in Straight Four Jackpot Pool to incite race-goers interest and put their money worth it.

The Straight Four races are 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. The first race will be held at 12.30pm.
