LARKANA, May 29: The current session of the district council (SC), Larkana, on Wednesday in an unanimous resolution urged the government to arrest the burglars and recover 40 original seals and artefacts robbed from the museum of Moenjodaro.
Mohib Pirzado, the Nazim of Bagi Union Council, tabling the resolution against the burglary stated that it was not just an incident of theft but it was a big conspiracy against the Indus Civilization in which an international burglars’ gang could be involved. And this gang must know the value of these invaluable seals and copper tablets.
He said that the snapping of the power supply to Mohenjodaro had put on risk the rest of the ancient artifacts lying there and called for capital punishment for the culprits.
Supporting the move, Nazims Barkat Shaikh, Safdar Mithani, Aijaz Leghari, Badruddin Abbasi, Nabi Bakhsh Malgani, Abdul Qadir Sangi, and M. Khan Channa, and Lady Councillor Ms Khursheed Khatyan condemning the incident stood for the early recovery of stolen seals and flayed the government’s move of shifting the archaeology library of Karachi and artifacts to Lahore.
The convener, Nazir Bughio, who chaired the session, informed it that the members would be briefed about the findings of the police for the district government had officially written to the district police officer (DPO), Larkana, in this context.
He disclosed that so far four people involved in the theft case had been rounded up.
Nazim Khair M. Shaikh complained about irregularities in the disbursement of Zakat funds and talked of favouritism.
Tarique Dayo, the district Zakat officer, taking the rostrum invited Nazims to check the lists and pin-point irregularities themselves and tick the names not eligible for Zakat, which he said the district Zakat committee would strike off from the lists.
He said in every union council not more than 25 Mustahkeens could receive Zakat.
The council also drew the attention of the session towards pye-dogs and urged it to ask the health officials for making available Anti-Rabbies Vaccine (ARV).
The Nazims called for launching an anti pye-dog campaign in the district to avoid dog-bite cases.
SUICIDE: A youth, Abdul Latif, son of Mazharuddain Khuhawar, committed suicide by shooting himself with a gun in Samiabad Mohalla on Wednesday.
