LAHORE, Feb 1: The Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen has decided to declare the secondary school annual examination results on a pass-fail basis from this year.
The committee meeting, chaired by its head Prof Dr Zakariya Butt (who is also the Lahore Board chairman) at the University of Faisalabad on Tuesday, also finalized matriculation and intermediate annual examinations' date sheets.
The PBCC also equalized the prize money and prizes for all nine boards, including that of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir. In order to harmonize the rules and regulations of secondary school and intermediate examinations, the PBCC had constituted a four-member committee.
When contacted, PBCC Secretary Haji Muhammad Dogar, who is also the Lahore board secretary, said the committee had decided to do away with the no-fail-no-pass system and agreed to declare the matric annual examination results on a fail-pass basis.
It also decided to give nine grace marks (one per cent) to candidates failing in one or more papers by nine marks. He said the committee decided that the boards would, however, issue the matric certificates for 2004 under the no-fail-no-pass system.
DATE-SHEETS: The PBCC also finalized the matric and intermediate annual examinations' uniform datesheets and dates for declaration of results. The PBCC decided that the secondary school Class-IX annual examinations for 2005 will begin on March 5 and conclude on March 18. While the Class-X annual examination will begin on March 19 and conclude on March 28.
The secondary school annual examination results will be declared on July 15 while Class-IX results will be announced on July 22. Similarly, the Class-XI (Part-I) annual examinations will begin on April 23 and conclude on May 7.
The Class-X (Part-II) examinations will begin on May 9 and conclude on May 23. The intermediate annual examinations' combined results will be declared on Aug 15.
CASH PRIZES: The PBCC decided that all the nine boards will give equal amount of cash prize and other prizes. The first, second and third position holders will be awarded Rs15,000, Rs10,000 and Rs5,000, respectively. The first position holders will also be given gold plated medals. The overall first position holder will also get a Pentium-IV computer.
HARMONIZATION OF COMMITTEE: The PBCC constituted a four-member committee to harmonize the contradictions and anomalies in matric and intermediate examination rules.
The committee, to be headed by Prof Dr Butt, comprises Rawalpindi Board chairman Dr Jalil Tariq, Faisalabad board chairman Dr Tahir Taunsvi and Lahore board secretary Hai Muhammad Dogar. Mr Dogar will act as secretary to the committee. The PBCC meeting was attended by all the nine boards' chairmen as well as Punjab Additional Secretary for Education (Academics) Chaudhry Muhammad Akram.
