Published February 2, 2005

KARACHI, Feb 1: Computer facility with internet at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases was formally opened on Tuesday with the objective to promote research capacities of postgraduate and undergraduate medical students enrolled with the NICVD.

NICVD Director Prof Azhar A Farooqui, speaking on the occasion said information technology, besides helping in other fields, was equally contributing in promotion of medical research and improvement in patient care.

Emphasizing importance of private and public partnership, he reminded that the public sector alone would not be able to do much in the field of research for providing quality healthcare to patients.

In this context, he mentioned that the government was also taking steps for promotion of IT, and the Higher Education Commission had got a huge budget for the purpose, expressing the hope that the HEC would also help medical institutions as NICVD for promotion of research.

Prof Farooqui said the NICVD would provide access to cardiac-related sites, general literature and online discussion facility to the doctors and students associated with the institute. -APP
