MIRPURKHAS, Jan 31: The District Public Safety and Police Complaint Commission has demanded that the Sindh government should immediately replace the DPO because crime rate and complaints against police in the district have increased after his appointment.
The commission in a resolution adopted at a meeting held here on Monday alleged that the DPO was deliberately not implementing recommendations of the DPSPC. The meeting reviewed performance of the commission during 2004.
Commission chairman Pir Abdul Rehman Jan Sarhandi presided over the meeting which was attended by City TPO Malik Zafar Iqbal, Syed Ali Gohar Shah, Mian Mohammad Saleem, Mohammad Rafiq, Rahim Makrani, Mohammad Hashim Memon, Mansoor Ahmad and Ali Mohammad Khan Talpur.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Sarhandi regretted that the crime rate and police excesses against people had increased during the last six months. He said the DPSPC after conducting a thorough inquiry sent 11 cases to the DPO for legal action against police officials but he did not cooperate with the commission.
He said in presence of DPO Altaf Hussain Bhatti, they could not work for human rights in the district. He said two custodial deaths of Qutub Ali Shah and Abu Bakar Panhwar had been reported during the tenure of the DPO.
FARMERS: Tail-end farmers of the Nara Canal are not receiving water despite release of water into the canal and its branches, including Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar.
Reports said after the annual closure, water was released into the canal on Jan 26 which had reached Jamrao, Mithrao and Thar branches. However, a number of distributaries at the tail end are not getting water.
Mirpurkhas Sindh Abadgar Board vice-chairman Abdul Ghafoor Maher and treasurer Shamsuddin Shaikh have expressed concern over the non-supply of water into tail-end distributaries. They said the non-availability of water was affecting standing crops of wheat, sugarcane, onion and vegetable in the area. They demanded that higher authorities concerned should take a notice of the matter.
