KARACHI, Jan 25: Winter showers lashed the city on Tuesday as the cold wave intensified with temperatures dipping to 12 degrees centigrade.
An official of the Pakistan Meteorological Department told Dawn on Tuesday that rainfall at Karachi Airport was 4.2mm, PAF Faisal 7mm, PAF Masroor 8mm, North Karachi 6mm and Baldia 7mm.
He added that according to the Met Office, the average rainfall in January was six millimeters. The PMD official said the maximum and minimum temperatures on Tuesday were 19.2°C and 12°C.
According to a Met Office forecast, it will be cloudy on Wednesday with chances of drizzle. Meanwhile, the transmission and distribution network of the KESC broke down in many localities following the rain.
Calling from Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Block 15, a resident said his locality had experienced a power breakdown in the early hours of Tuesday. "We woke up because of the power breakdown and realized that it was raining.
We immediately called the complaint centre of the KESC and were informed that repair work would start only after the rain had stopped," he said. A resident of Garden East said his area had also faced a prolonged power breakdown. However, KESC spokesman said no power cuts occurred on Tuesday.
