KARACHI, Jan 24: The managing director, KWSB, Brig Iftekhar Hyder, has directed the engineers and staff of the board to closely monitor sewerage and water supply system during the rainfall, while the complaint centres established for Eid be kept functional.
He was speaking at an emergency meeting following reports about rainfall in the city. The Deputy Managing Director (Technical Services), Israr Zaidi, and other engineers were also present at the meeting.
Mr Hyder said water board staff should keep itself prepared to meet any rain emergency. He said the stolen or broken manhole covers should be replaced, while pumping stations and supply lines should be kept under a close watch.
The citizens were also asked not to dislodge manhole covers for draining water, keeping in view the preventive measures to be taken during the rain. Meanwhile, a KWSB spokesman announced that the citizens could contact in case of any emergency at the Central Complaint Centre, set up in the board head office, on phone number 9231221.
The residents of Gulshan, Malir, Shah Faisal, Korangi, Bin Qasim and Gadap towns could lodge their complaints on phone number 9230717, while those living in Baldia, Site and Orangi Towns on phone number 2567850.
The residents of North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Liquatabad and Gulberg towns were asked to lodge their complaints, if any, on phone number 6982297 and the residents of Saddar, Keemari, Jamshed and Liyari towns could call on 9204346 and 9215064 in case of rain emergency. -APP/PPI
