ISLAMABAD, Jan 11: MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company has announced that it has made a second discovery of oil and gas in the Tal Block, located in NWFP.

A press release issued here on Tuesday said that the block had been explored for hydrocarbons in 1999 by a consortium of companies, including Oil and Gas Development Co Ltd (OGDCL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Pakistan Oilfields Ltd (POL) and Government Holdings Ltd (GHPL), with MOL as an operator.

The exploration activity resulted in a discovery (Manzalal-1 well) in December 2002. Following the first discovery in 2002, the consortium decided to drill anew exploratory well (Makori-1) in 2004. The well was spudded in March 2004 and reached its target depth in December.

The tests are in progress and the well has already produced significant volumes of oil and gas. So far the tests of three zones proved presence of hydrocarbon with the following test results:

* Zone-I between 2,888-2,925.5 metres produced 16.72 mmscf/day gas and 1,179 bpd condensate at 3,645 psi flowing wellhead pressure, through 32/64 inch choke.

* Zone-2 between 3,166-3,178 metres produced 1,700 bpd crude oil and 2.3 mmscf/day gas at 1,013 psi flowing wellhead pressure, through 32/64 inch choke.
