KARACHI, Jan 5: The District Regional Transport Authority has done away with the names of the coaches plying in the city and approved to allot them three-digit numbers, starting from 101.

For this purpose, the city has been divided into eight zones. The decision was taken at a meeting of the board held under the chairmanship of DCO Fazlur Rehman here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by EDOs of Transport and Revenue, DG Mass Transit, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority and other officials, besides traffic officials and board members.

According to the decision, Zone-1 will consist of Baldia Town, Orangi Town and RCD Highway and coaches operating in this zone will be allotted numbers from 100 to 199. Zone-II will consist of Surjani Town, North Karachi, Buffer Zone, Qasba and Mangopir Road where coaches will be allotted numbers from 200 to 299.

Zone-III will comprise F B Area, F C Area, Sindhi Hotel and PIB Colony where numbers from 300 to 399 will be allotted. Zone-IV will have the areas of Scheme-33, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and coaches plying from here will have numbers from 400 to 499.

Zone-V will consist of Malir, Malir Cantonment, Khokhrapar and other villages, Gulshan-i-Hadeed, National Highway and Shah Faisal Colony and numbers from 500 to 599 will be allotted here.

Zone VI will include the areas of Landhi, Korangi and Mahmoodabad with numbers from 600 to 699 to be allotted here. Zone VII will comprise areas of Defence, Clifton, Shirin Jinnah Colony, Keamari, Saddar, Cantonment and Sultanabad. The coaches here will be allotted numbers from 700 to 799.

The areas which have been included in Zone VIII will be Hawkesbay, Mauripur Road, Agra Taj Colony and Dockyard where numbers from 800 to 899 will be allotted. The Board also approved the allotment of numbers of coaches already plying as under:

Zone I: Awan Coach 100, Al-Rehman 101, Bilal 102, Dost 103, Friends 104, Ilyas 105, Khushhal 106, Mubarak 107, National 108, Moon Star 109, Tariq Afridi 110, Omar 111 and Zafran 112.
