KARACHI, May 27: A high-level meeting held here on Monday examined various aspects of the installation of a desalination plant in the city.

Dewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui, minister for local government, presiding over the meeting, constituted a six-member committee to finalize and submit its report within 15 days.

Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Shahzado Shaikh is its chairman. The other members of the committee are: the secretary for the local government, Maj Qamar Zaman; a representative of Siemens, Suhail Wajahat; a representative of Defence Housing Authority, Commander Ashfaque Beg; Dr Jamil, chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council, and the managing director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Brig Bahram Khan. They also attended the meeting.

Dewan Yousuf asked the officials and members of the committee to collect more information on desalination technology from other countries.—PPI
