SHIKARPUR, Dec 5: Sindh Inspector General Police Syed Kamal Shah has expressed satisfaction over police performance in the search for the judges kidnapped on Friday, saying police will recover the judges soon.
He was talking to newsmen at the DPO office here on Sunday evening. He is visiting Shikarpur in connection with the kidnapping case which took place in the Dhakhan police area.
The IGP said that during police raids on the Hafizabad and Ayub Kharos villages, police had recovered some photographs of the persons involved in the kidnapping. One of the accused was identified by the additional sessions judge, Aftab Ahmed Bughio, who had been released by the kidnappers.
He said that during a search of villages, police had also recovered a police cap and a cap of one of the judges. Besides, some unsigned papers of the judgement which was prepared on Nov 27, 2004 in a case reportedly disposed of by the additional sessions judge had also been found, he said.
The IGP said that police had arrested 35 suspects who were in police custody and being interrogated. He said that it could be too early to say whether this kidnapping was made for ransom or for creating problem for the government.
He admitted that the law and order was very critical in Shikarpur district in comparison to other eight districts of the Sukkur region. He said that a plan was being formulated to curb criminal activities in the district and in other districts of the province in general.
Sindh Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani said that the Sindh government was determined to crush criminals and terrorists and in this regard all-out efforts were being made to provide protection to the lives, honour and properties of the people.
OUR SUKKUR CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Sindh Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani and Sindh Inspector General Syed Kamal Shah have said that the two kidnapped judges will be released shortly.
Talking to newsmen at the Sukkur Airport on Sunday evening, they said that progress had been made in efforts to recover the judges. They said that they had suspended the Inspector of Reserve Police who was responsible for providing escort to judges and other personalities.
Earlier, the two officers met family members of the kidnapped judges and notables of the Hindu community. Meanwhile, heavy contingent of police cordoned off Hafizabad and Kharoosan-Ji-Wandh village and conducted a search for the recovery of two kidnapped judges.
Talking to newsmen Shikarpur DPO K. K. Memon said that police had identified some persons while investigation was underway. He said that all the arrested suspects had been kept at the New Foujdari police station, Shikarpur, where police were interrogating them.
