GUJRANWALA, Dec 1: Five college students were injured seriously in an armed clash between two groups at Rawalpindi By-pass intersection here on Wednesday.
Some students of the Government College, Gujranwala, were allegedly receiving protection money from the transporters.
In the meanwhile, another group of students (ATI) of Government Islamia College, Gujranwala, reached there and forbade them to do so. After a squabble, they opened fire on each other.
As a result, Shahid Mahmood, Mujahid, Yasir, Sheraz Ahmad and Abdul Rehman of Government Islamia College sustained bullet injuries. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition.
Police have registered a case against accused Ijaz Warraich, Adnan Mehr, Shehzad, Younas and their three unidentified accomplices. Further investigation is under way.
LOANS: Loans on agricultural products under Rabi policy for 2004-05 will be provided to farmers up to Jan 31, 2005, on nine per cent mark-up. This was stated by provincial food minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal here on Wednesday.
The minister said the loan up to Rs200,000 would be given on sponsorship of the agricultural land. He said that cooperative societies had been empowered to issue loans to farmers for the purchase of agricultural machinery.
He pointed out that the agricultural loans under revolving credit scheme would be given on the recommendation of the cooperative society. District officer (revenue) Syed Najam Ahmad Shah and other officials were also present on the occasion.
GETS DEATH: The local anti-terrorism court No. 1 on Wednesday awarded death sentence on five counts along with a fine of Rs250,000 in a murder case. According to the prosecution, Nasir Iqbal alias Nasro along with his accomplices had killed five people - Pervez Elahi, Liaquat Ali, Muhammad Riaz, Amjad Hussain and Muhammad Ashraf over a murder enmity on June 12, 2000.
The court has already handed down death sentence to Qaiser Mahmood and Zulfikar Ahmad and acquitted Ali Bahadar, Ali Asif, Muhammad Ashraf and Allah Ditta by giving them the benefit of the doubt in the same case.
HEARING: The additional sessions judge on Wednesday started the hearing of the murder case of former councillor Khawaja Mehmood Amjad Rathore and adjourned the case until Dec 8. The court will issue charge sheet to accused - a UC Nazim, Anjuman Tajran president Khawaja Afsar Majid, his brother Khawaja Amir Majid and Masood Ahmad.
