Change of ARD rally venue annoys PML-N

ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: The Pakistan Muslim League-N is annoyed over the decision of the People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP) to change the venue of December 6 rally of the ARD from Peshawar to Batkhela without taking it into confidence.

Acting parliamentary leader of the PML-N Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the PPP did not consult his party before making any decision in this regard.

He said being an ally in the ARD, the PPP should have taken them into confidence on this matter.

PPP secretary-general Raja Pervez Ashraf said the decision was taken a couple of days back in Peshawar and PML-N secretary-general Saranjam Zamindar was aware of the plan.

Giving reason for changing the venue, Mr Ashraf said the local ARD leaders were of the view that the public meetings should be shifted to Batkhela from Peshawar as by-elections were being held in Malakand on December 15 on a National Assembly seat. So the public meeting, he said, would become a part of the election campaign of the PPP candidate, which had also been supported by the PML-N.

This is the second venue changed by the ARD as earlier the venue of Dec 13 Mirpur rally had also been changed to Muzaffarabad. That decision had also been taken at the request of PPP.

Responding to a question whether the PML-N nursed fears that the PPP would leave the party after conciliation with the government, Chaudhry Nisar expressed the hope that the PPP would not do so.
