KARACHI, Oct 12: Sindh chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) on Tuesday staged a demonstration outside the Press Club to protest against what it called abrogation of the Constitution and overthrowing of a democratic government, five years back on Oct 12, by Gen Pervez Musharraf.

The participants of the demonstration, who were wearing black arm-bands, were holding banners, posters and black flags and raising slogans of "Go Musharraf go" and in favour of Nawaz Sharif.

They also burnt the booklet issued by the information ministry on five years achievement of the Musharraf government. Speaking to the participants, the PML-N leaders, Mamnoon Hussain, Zain Ansari, Sardar Rahim, Salim Zia, Haider Shah, Nihal Hashmi, Malik Azeem Awan, Eng Shahmir Khan, Khwaja Tariq Nazeer, Syed Hafeezuddin and Mazhar Magsi said that the days of the illegal and unconstitutional governments were numbered.

Terming the Oct 12 the darkest day in the history of the country, they said the rulers had inflicted irreparable loss to the country by trampling its political, social and democratic system and taking over all institutions.

Recalling the pressing issues like price hike, increasing unemployment, and deteriorating law and order, they said these problems had multiplied the miseries of the people.

Mamnoon Hussain, on the occasion maintained that owing to wrong foreign policy of the Musharraf government, Pakistan was left alone in the community of nations, while the government was also preparing ground to accept Indian hegemony in the region by declaring the UN resolution on Kashmir as null and void, adds PPI.

"Owing to his (President Pervez Musharraf's) policies, scores of Muslims were killed in Afghanistan and now in Iraq," he said and added that like past, the people of Pakistan still regarded Mian Nawaz Sharif as their leader.

He demanded government to hold fresh elections under the supervision of an impartial election commission, allowing former PM's Mian Nawaz Sharif, Benazir Bhutto and former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif to return to the country besides immediate release of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi and Asif Ali Zardari.
