FAISALABAD: Suspects being grilled

Published October 13, 2004

FAISALABAD, Oct 12: Interrogation of the two suspects arrested from a mosque here on Monday does not suggest that they have any association with a militant outfit or had plan to carry out a sabotage activity.

Mehr Khan and Gul Zaman of Dera Ismail Khan had come here to recover money they had borrowed to a local trader. They had, in past, been working as security guard in the Clock Tower area. One of them was clad in burqa when they entered Moti Masjid on Monday and were subsequently caught by people.

"The burqa was meant to deceive a foe following us," they told police. Prayer leader Qari Muhammad Hanif also confirmed that no weapon or any other material was recovered from them.

DIG Abid Saeed, meanwhile, said that their interrogation would continue. "We are verifying their claim and a police team has left for collecting information on their background."
