HYDERABAD, Oct 7: The Sindhi Hari Tehrik has expressed concern over the forced recovery of dhal (crop tax) and abyano (water charges) from farmers of Badin and Thatta district despite an acute shortage of water and the havoc wreaked in the coastal area by heavy rains and cyclones.
At the party's central committee meeting here on Wednesday, the leaders observed that tens of thousands of people of coastal area had been displaced due to three cyclones and heavy rains and suffered losses to the tune of tens of millions of rupees.
Ali Nawaz Dahri presided over the meeting. The meeting regretted that despite the plight of the farmers, recoveries of loans were being made from them through police. The meeting criticized the role of the revenue department in this regard.
The meeting claimed that in the absence of any law to protect the rights of millions of peasants, they were at the mercy of the feudal gentry. It claimed that the prevailing state of affairs in the rural areas was a flagrant violation of human rights. The meeting decided to hold a three-day training workshop for the tillers in Paban Sharif from Oct 22 to Oct 24.
PLEA: A man, Ahmed Khan Sanjrani of Goth-19 Jamrao, Sinjhoro taluka, Sanghar district, has demanded that the accused, including his son, Ali Ghulam, who he alleged were involved in the murder of his brother, Ishaq Sanjrani, be arrested.
Speaking at a news conference at the press club on Thursday, he said that his brother was killed due to a matrimonial dispute. He said an FIR was lodged by him with the Sinjhoro police but they did not mention the names of two main accused, Marvi and Qaisar Sanjrani, in the FIR. He demanded that the names of his son, Ali Ghulam, Marvi, Kehar Khaskheli and Qaisar Sanjrani should be included in the FIR.
MSF: The Muslim Students Federation (N) at a meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Sindh president, Roshan Baloch, has decided to observe a black day throughout Sindh on Oct 12.
The meeting condemned the arrest of Ashiq Kalhoro, the president of the PML-N youth wing of Larkana. It demanded that Nawaz Sharif and his family should be allowed to return to the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Roshan Baloch accused the generals of derailing the democratic process in the country. Mr Baloch observed that the recent tour of President Pervez Musharraf to America and other countries was an utter failure.
He said if Gen Pervez Musharraf had any love for the nation and the country then he should discard his uniform before December and allow Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto to return to Pakistan.
