KARACHI, Oct 7: A bandit was killed and his accomplice was injured when security guards posed resistance during a bank dacoity bid in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Thursday, forcing the suspects to flee.

Police said five armed suspects came to the Habib Bank Branch in Block-5, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and held the customers and staff at gunpoint. As they were disarming the two security guards, Barkat Dad and Raza Khan, the latter opened fire, killing one of the bandits, who was later identified as Illahi Bux.

Police said Illahi Bux had suffered a bullet wound in his neck causing his instant death. Another bandit was also injured in the course, however, he managed to flee from the scene along with the other four of his accomplices.

An AK-7 rifle and a TT pistol were recovered from the possession of Illahi Bux, police said. Two police officials on motorcycle also reached the spot, but the suspects managed to escape under the cover of fire.
