VEHARI, Sept 29: The people, including women and children, of various towns staged a rally here against the Mepco, Vehari Circle, to protest the unscheduled load shedding for the last one week.
The protesters also chanted slogans against Wapda officials. They alleged that the power supply remained suspended for six to eight hours between dawn and dusk in towns and rural areas, creating varied problems for the people.
They demanded of the Wapda chairman to look into the matter. When contacted, 220 KV grid station sub-station operator Muhammad Siddique said that the load shedding started on the directives of the regional control centre, Islamabad.
The Vehari circle comprises 10 towns - Luddan, Karampur, Mailsi; Hasilpur, Burewala, Sahooka, Sheikh Fazal, Dahranwala, Noor Sir, Chishtian and Chichawatni. The electricity to these towns are supplied through Vehari 220 KV and 132 KV grid stations.
SUSPENDED: The local PTCL customer services centre has been functioning without stationery for the last one month. The service of tele printers, telephone, and fax has been under suspension on account of non-availability of fax rolls, paper rolls, files, and various types of registers.
The PTCL staff said they had purchased some stationary on their own, but they could not afford to buy it in future. The General Manager office in Multan had been informed repeatedly about the situation, but to no avail. However, the worst-sufferers are the visitors who have demanded of the high-ups to provide funds to the PTCL centre for the stationery.
