ARD files another motion on Wana in NA

ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: The Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has submitted another motion to the National Assembly Secretariat seeking a discussion on the ongoing military operation in Wana, a source told Dawn here on Tuesday.

According to the source, 11 members of the People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-N and Balochistan National Party on Tuesday submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly Secretariat concerning an incident in which five soldiers were reportedly killed in an attack in South Waziristan area on Monday.

The motion, filed under Rule 92 of the Rules and Procedure for Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992, states: "Five soldiers were killed and another 10 were wounded when a military convoy was attacked en route from Wana to Jhandala on Monday (September 27) in South Waziristan Agency as stated by eye witnesses.

But the army spokesman confirmed the death of only three soldiers. However, it has been confirmed that the situation in tribal area is dangerous which has caused grave concern among the general public.

The matter is of recent occurrence and public importance which needs discussion on the floor of the house adjourning the business of the house." The adjournment motion has been signed by Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Abdul Rauf Mengal, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Naheed Khan, Tehmina Daultana, Fauzia Wahab, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Khwaja Saad Rafiq, Khwaja Mohammad Asif and Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur.
