QUETTA, Sept 21: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Yousuf has said that a joint resolution of the PML and BNP-Awami in favour of President's military uniform had to be withdrawn due to reservations of the Muttahida Majlis Amal (MMA) , the main coalition partner of the provincial government.
Talking to newsmen after a brief special session of the Balochistan Assembly here on Monday, he said the resolution would be moved in the house soon after consulting all coalition partners.
"We have withdrawan the resolution in the house on the request of the MMA," he clarified and dispelled the impression that withdrawal of the resolution was a defeat of the coalition government. He said it was part of democratic process and such things happen in the democracy and democratic society.
He also denied that he had not consulted even his partymen over the issue and said that he had taken the Balochistan PML leadership into confidence over the issue and with their consent it had been decided to move the resolution in favour of President Musharraf in the house.
In reply to a question, he said consensus could not be developed among coalition partners over the action and that was the reason why the resolution had to be withdrawan.
He said he would again initiate negotiations with all coalition partners including MMA and all possible efforts would be made to remove their reservations for moving a consensus resolution in the house for approval.
Maulana Abdul Wasay, the Senior Minister and Parliamentary leader of Muttahida Majlis Amal in the Balochistan government, talking to newsmen in the Speaker's Chamber said that the resolution on uniform was not a joint move of the coalition government.
He said that MMA had reservations about resolution on President's uniform. He said the Balochistan MMA will honour the stand of the central leadership on the issue of uniform and will not compromise over it.
