Khalid, Asim surge ahead

KARACHI, Oct 27: Top two seeds Mohammad Khalid and Asim Aziz recorded impressive straight games victories over their opponents to move into the men’s singles second round of the Lions Open table tennis tournament on Friday evening at the Sindh Sports Board Complex, Nazimabad.

Khalid of Pakistan PWD remained in control of the proceedings against Usman Siddique who was let down by his erratic shots. Khalid triumphed 21-10, 21-10.

Second seeded Asim Aziz mounted pressure from the very start by producing skillful drives to beat Kashan Edhi 21-10, 21-15.

On the first day of the tournament, 24 matches were decided in four events — men and women singles, boys and girls (under-17) singles.

The tournament has attracted entries and is being jointly organised by the Lions Club International District 305 and the Sindh Sports Board under the auspices of the Karachi Table Tennis Association with Saleem Ahmed as its organising secretary.
