QUETTA, May 24: Balochistan Governor Amirul Mulk Mengal has said that keeping in view the increasing interest of women in higher education, the government has decided to launch post-graduate classes in women’s colleges and upgrade intermediate colleges.

No area could be developed until its people are completely educated, he said, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the first women’s polytechnic institute here on Friday.

The institute, completed with the financial cooperation of the Asian Development Bank, has launched its first academic session.

Urging all segments of the society to work jointly for improving performance of the education sector, the governor said the establishment of the institute for women was a great achievement.

He said that all possible methods, including giving incentives to teachers, would be adopted for improving the standard of education. He added that the government was appointing highly educated and qualified women teachers on contract basis while women teachers working in the rural areas would get an additional salary of Rs500.

Mr Mengal said Balochistan was the only province that had allocated 22 per cent of its budget for education and during the current financial year, the government was spending four billion rupees on the education sector.

He announced that teachers training centres, college teachers’ academies and more polytechnic institutes would be set up in the province.
