Netherlands, Pakistan to enahnce trade

ISLAMABAD, Sept 16: The Netherlands and Pakistan have agreed to enhance cooperation in different fields, particularly in business and trade.

These views were expressed by Dr Paul Marcel Murpershjoek, Ambassador of the Netherlands, who called on Dr Salman Shah, Adviser to PM on Finance, here on Thursday.

During the meeting, matters relating to bilateral relations and enhancement of economic cooperation between the two countries came under discussion. Dr Paul said there was a great potential of enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in a number of fields.

He said the Netherlands Embassy was looking into the possibilities of reviving programmes for Pakistan in the education sector. Dr Paul said a delegation of businessmen from his country representing various sectors like agriculture, dairy products, windmill technology, etc., will shortly visit Pakistan to explore avenues of trade and investment here.

Dr Salman Shah said improved infrastructure, availability of human capital coupled with continuity and consistency of policies and political stability achieved by Pakistan had made it an attractive place for investment.

"The government will take all steps required to attract more foreign investments." Dr Salman said Pakistan would welcome a much greater role of Dutch companies particularly in training, education and horticulture sectors. "Netherlands's assistance in the engineering sector can go a long way in diversifying and expanding Pakistan's trade," said the adviser.

Dr Paul Marcel appreciated improvement in security environment and business climate in Pakistan. He said most of the Dutch companies doing business in Pakistan was satisfied with government's policies.

President Pervez Musharraf's forthcoming visit to the Netherlands and his meetings with businessmen there also came under discussion. -APP
