KARACHI, Sept 15: Three mega projects, costing about Rs50 million, have been initiated in Malir Town by the city district government.

These projects include repair of three pipelines of different diameters between Kala Board and Khokhrapar No 4; construction of a 36-feet wide dual road from Saudabad to Khokhrapar and reconstruction of Begum Khursheed Road from Kala Board to Saudabad, Malir Town's Nazim, Naveed-ul-Islam told a news conference on Wednesday.

He said the 36-feet wide dual track road from Saudabad to Khokhrapar No 4 was being constructed at a cost of Rs 19 million. About Begum Khursheed Road, he said its reconstruction work had been delayed as the KWSB could not complete its task of plugging leakages of a pipeline passing underneath it on time.

The KWSB officials have now assured the town officials that repair work would be accomplished in the next 10 days and as soon as repair of pipeline is completed, the road's reconstruction will begin, he added.

Giving details of the development works undertaken by the town through its own resources, he said so far an amount of Rs10.04 million has been spent on repair and construction of main roads, internal roads and footpaths of different union councils, link roads and roundabouts; and 7,000 street-lights and floodlights have been installed.

Referring to other major projects undertaken in the town during last three years, he said these included construction of a girls college, beautification of Kala Board roundabout, development of model parks, setting up of a 36-bed hospital in Malir City, laying of sewerage line from Model Colony to Malir Halt, cleaning of nullahs and manholes, setting up of a mono- technical institute in Memon Goth and other works.
