PESHAWAR, Sept 13: An anti-terrorism court here on Monday indicted two alleged Afghan terrorists for rocket attacks on Peshawar. The accused, Bedar Gul, son of Taza Gul, and Nadir, son of Ibraheem, pleaded not guilty to the offence and decided to defend themselves.

The court, presided over by Akhter Zareef Khan, fixed Sept 28 for next hearing and summoned prosecution witnesses for that date. The accused are charged with firing four rockets at different targets on March 23.

The police also claimed that on their pointation they had recovered two live Russian-made rockets of 107mm from a deserted location in the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara police station.

The four rockets had hit different locations: one landed inside the Balahisar Fort, the headquarters of the Frontier Corps; and three other landed in the vicinity of district courts, parking lot of the civil secretariat and Dabgari garden area, respectively.

No casualty had occurred during that attack. Two separate FIRs were registered after these attacks at East Cant and Kabuli police stations under section 3/4 of the Explosive Substance Act, section 324 of Pakistan Penal Code, and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The arrest of the two had been kept a closely-guarded secret and finally on June 15 Peshawar SSP (operations) Abid Ali made their arrest public at a press conference. He alleged that the two terrorists and their accomplices were hired by anti-Pakistan elements in Afghanistan.
