LAHORE, Sept 13: College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) chief executive officer Brig Mazhar Iqbal (retired) has said the college gives its trainers "recognition" and no remuneration.

He said at a news conference here on Monday the role of the CPSP was to recognize medical colleges and select senior professors as trainers to help doctors specialize in a particular field.

He said the fee for its three to four mandatory workshops was very low despite the fact that college offered airconditioned environment, computer lab and meals to the participants.

Citing an example, he said, the charges for a three-day workshop on communication skills were Rs8,500. About the disaffiliation of certain departments of different medical colleges in Lahore, he said the CPSP had no enmity with anyone. The procedure was done according to the laid down rules.

Brig Iqbal said the departments disaffiliated from the CPSP were required to reapply for review of the decision. He, however, parried questions regarding departments in city's medical colleges in particular. CPSP medical education director Pervaiz Bashir was present on the occasion.
