PPP deplores privatization of colleges

KARACHI, Sept 7: The executive committee of the People's Party Parliamentarians, Sindh, which met under the chairmanship of its new president Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Monday, deplored alleged manipulations in the recent by-elections and privatization of certain colleges of the city.

The meeting through a resolution also deplored the alleged insulting treatment meted out to party MNAs, MPAs and other leaders by police and other officials. It observed that the decision to privatize two former missionary institutions - St Joseph and St Patrick colleges - was aimed at making education costly, which would deprive the poor of their right to get education.

The executive committee also reiterated the party's position against Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal projects and attempts to terrorise the party leadership. In this context, it alleged that two suspects, who were handed over to police while they were taking pictures of the Bilawal House in a mysterious way, actually belonged to a secret agency.

While reviewing political, economic and other conditions in the province, the party criticized the government for failing to provide security to the common man and maintained that due to policies of the government, people were being rendered jobless and were being forced to commit suicide.
