DHAKA, Aug 27: The government of Bangladesh on Friday enhanced the security for the Awami League president Sheikh Hasina.

Additional personnel from the uniformed and plainclothes security agencies were deployed around Sudah Sadan, the Dhanmondi residence of Ms Hasina (who is also the leader of the opposition in parliament), official sources said.

Police also set up five check posts outside Sudha Sadan. The security measures came six days after the bomb attack on an Awami League rally on Aug 21, in which Ms Hasina had a narrow escape.

The government has increased the number of police personnel for her home protection to 45 from 30. For escort protection, it has added two more uniformed police vans to the previous two.

Each of them carries 14 policemen. The number of the Special Branch police in plainclothes has been increased to 24 from 16. Also, a number of personnel from various security agencies have been deployed around Sudha Sadan.
