KARACHI, Aug 18: A high-level meeting on Wednesday reviewed progress on the Education City, being developed at Scheme No 33, and hurdles obstructing the work in this regard.

The meeting chaired by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan was attended by DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali, EDO Works and Services Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Director General, Karachi Mass Transit Cell Malik Zaheerul Islam, EDO, Master Plan Atiq Baig, EDO, Revenue Mohammad Wasim, representatives of Aga Khan University, Ziauddin Medical University and other educational institutions.

The city nazim observed that the education city project was in the interest of citizens, and it would play a vital role in promoting education. "The city government would extend every possible cooperation for construction of the education city."

He directed concerned officials to take measures on priority basis to remove hurdles obstructing the project. "No structure will be constructed on land specified for the project without approval of the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) and the Master Plan Department," he added.

The DCO directed the Revenue Department to prepare a report about land given on lease for the project. He further directed that a check be kept on the project's land so that it was not be encroached.

Mr Naimat constituted a committee for preparing building by-laws of project. The committee comprising EDO, Master Plan as its head, also includes representatives of the Aga Khan University, Controller of Buildings and concerned departments. - PPI
