LAHORE, Aug 17: The police investigation wing claimed on Tuesday to have busted a 15-member gang of robbers and car jackers and seized valuables worth Rs17.5 million.
Speaking at a press conference, police investigation chief Chaudhry Shafqaat said that the arrested criminals were responsible for murders on resistance besides robberies and car and motorcycle lifting.
The valuables included 15 cars, six motorcycles, Rs500,000 cash, electronics, cell phones, and costly wrist watches, he said. The police chief said the gang had been active in the city and elsewhere in Punjab for the last some months, and had killed at least two shopkeepers and wounded several others during their strikes.
"The Punjab police senior hierarchy had been very keen in arresting the strikes of the gang. Our men continuously did work on this gang for four months and collected evidence and clues which helped make the arrests," he said.
Some members of the gang had very sophisticated weapons, he said and added an Ooze gun was included among other weapons recovered from them. The other weapons included four rifles and 13 pistols besides 250 bullets, 15 cartridges and 18 magazines.
