PESHAWAR: Two policemen booked

PESHAWAR, Aug 12: Two police officials were booked by the local police on Wednesday for registering a fake narcotics case against one, Munawar Khan.

The FIR against a former SHO of the Bhadaber police station, Sherzaman Khan, and ASI Fazal Ameen were registered on the orders of Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariq Yousafzai.

The court had last month acquitted Mr Munawar Khan and observed that the two officials were a black spot on the face of the department. It had further said that the two should be expelled from the department.

The present SHO of the Bhadaber police, Tariq Habib, has booked the two officials under section 9 and 26 of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act, 1997. A police official found guilty of vexatious seizure or search of a place could be awarded up to three years imprisonment plus fine under section 26 of the CNSA.

On July 14, 2003, the two officials had registered a case against Mr Munawar Khan. They claimed that they had recovered 160kg of charas from a vehicle (IDH 7537) belonging to Mr Munawar Khan.

Mr Munawar Khan approached the provincial police officer to tell him that no recovery had been made from his vehicle and that it was a concocted case. An inquiry was conducted which showed that the case against Mr Munawar Khan was not genuine following which the two officials were suspended.

The court also acquitted Mr Munawar Khan as both the officials had made conflicting statements during their testimony. They could not even produce the case property before the court, saying that they had destroyed it.
