KARACHI, Aug 9: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro has announced that the government will encourage the NGOs and CBOs intending to run the closed public schools on a no-profit basis.

She stated this while talking in her office to representative of the All Pakistan Women's Organization (Apwa), Begum Laila Sarfraz, on Monday. The minister said the efforts were under way to make the closed schools functional and improve the quality of teaching by ensuring the attendance of teachers.

She said a monitoring system was being set up for the purpose, and now the supervisors of school education would be bound to pay surprise visits to schools, while the assistant district officers would submit monthly reports, along with checking diaries of supervisors.

Begum Laila, who is also a trustee of Sir Haji Abdullah Haroon Trust, showed interest in taking over the Sir Abdullah Haroon Government School, Khada Market, under denationalization policy, and offered support to operate the closed government schools through Apwa.

The minister appreciated the offer and said that with the participation of NGOs and the community, the quality of education in the public sector schools could be ensured. Sindh Education Secretary Nadir Ali Markhiani and Special Secretary Syed Sohail Akber Shah were also present on the occasion. -APP
