KARACHI, Aug 6: The proposed freight village at Wazir Mansion was reviewed by the chairman of Pakistan Railways, Asif Hayat Malik, during a visit to the site on Thursday.
The railways is developing its own freight container terminal as Freight Village at Wazir Mansion Railway Station to provide a boost to the freight container traffic by rail and help reduce congestion at Karachi Port.
The railways chairman, who was accompanied by DS Junaid Qureshi, reviewed the progress of the proposed plan. He was informed that the railways will involve the private sector for investment in this project which will cost an estimated Rs23 million.
Later, the railways chairman had a meeting with KPT chairman and discussed the railway-related matters. He also inspected the facilities at Karachi International Container Terminal and Pakistan International Container Terminal at the port and was briefed about the working of these two terminals. Containers from these terminals are already being dispatched for upcountry destinations by the railway. -APP
