BAHAWALPUR, Aug 6: Union Council No 5 (Bahawalpur city) Acting Nazim Sheikh Azizur Rahman on Friday constituted a three-member committee to probe the matter of attestation of 'fake' death certificate of an under-trial dacoity accused by a councillor.

Mehtab Kausar Bokhari had allegedly attested the death certificate of Faisal Shahzad Goraya, an under-trial dacoit who managed to get job in the National Highway and Motorway Police, few months ago.

The constitution of a team was necessitated when Mr Bokhari denied that he had attested the claim of the accused's uncle Muhammad Ashraf that he (Faisal) was dead. The attestation was further confirmed with the signature and seal of the UC Nazim, who issued the death certificate.

The Nazim is said to be at odds with the councillor, who did not turn up before the former after being called to explain his position. The Nazim has set up a committee comprising his councillors, who have summoned Mr Bokhari for Aug 9 to record his statement.

To ensure the delivery of these summons to the suspect, committee convener Aftab Ahmad Gudu and his councillors Rana Khalid Iqbal and Siddiq Khan Baloch have dispatched him a letter.

Meanwhile, the Nazim has yet to complete the verification process of the death certificate and send a report to a sessions court in Karachi. The court had sent this certificate to the Nazim to check the veracity of the claim.

SUSPENDED: The district police officer on Friday suspended from service two police constables, who allegedly misbehaved with a doctor at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital's emergency ward. Rana Ibrar of the Elite Force and Abdul Ghaffar misbehaved with Dr Umar Farooq during a protest of people here the other day.
