PESHAWAR, Aug 5: NWFP Governor Lt. Gen (retd) Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Thursday directed the chairmen of all education boards to chalk out a plan to regulate private schools in the province.

Presiding over a meeting of the chairmen of the boards at Governor's House Nathiagali, he highlighted the regulatory role of the boards and stated that each private school must be evaluated on the basis of available infrastructure, qualification it prepares students for, level of faculty, fee structure as well as the salary package of teachers.

"We definitely would like to encourage the private sector to significantly contribute in the promotion of education but it must not be aimed at exploiting the public and at the cost of their interests," the governor said.

He also constituted a committee comprising the chairmen of the boards of Peshawar, Swat and Mardan, to evaluate the progress of work in this connection, and submit their proposals to further streamline the process.

Mr Shah also gave go ahead signal to start working on launching an e-government system in the boards adding that the entire objective should be fully in place by December this year.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Schools and Literacy Mr Sherzada Khan, Additional Secretary to Governor Mr. Sikandar Qayyum as well as the representative of the Board of Technical Education.

Earlier during a briefing the meeting was informed about the different dimensions of the proposed e-government system to be adopted by all the boards. The system will also comprise a website and efforts are under way to launch such a system under which the candidates, after submission of their original examination forms would not be required to visit the offices of the boards again and again and all queries and financial matters would be dealt through the online system.
