KARACHI, Aug 1: Federal Communication Minister Senator Babar Khan Ghouri on Sunday said that the Lyari Expressway affectees will be resettled on priority, and stressed timely completion of the project project which is expected to mitigate the traffic problem in the city.

"No hurdle and delay will be tolerated in completion of the project," he said during a visit to the project site. He was given a briefing on the project, during which he said that the early completion of the project would ease the traffic congestion on city roads by providing an alternative quick route to the motorists.

He deputed the additional secretary, Communication, K B Rind, as coordinator of the project. As the motorists and heavy vehicles would be using the expressway, the erosion of the city roads would be less, which would enhance life of the roads, he said.

He said the affectees of the project would be rehabilitated at the earliest and efforts were underway to ensure early payments to them at market rates. He called upon the city and Sindh governments to make hectic efforts for completion of the project at the earliest, adding that any delay would add to the miseries of the people.

He said the North and South parts of the project should be cleared and constructed first due to additional rush on the site. Earlier, National Highway Authority chairman Gen Farrukh Javed and Brig Muhammad Anwar briefed the minister on the project and various technical hurdles in the way of its early completion. The minister also made a detailed visit to the Lyari Expressway from Mauripur to Sohrab Goth along with the officials concerned.

WORKERS' FLATS: The minister said that the federal cabinet will make every effort to implement the National Housing Policy announced by President Gen Pervez Musharraf in 2001. He was speaking at a ceremony held to hand over flats to postal employees at the General Post Office on Saturday evening.
