KARACHI, Aug 1: The city government has decided to start regularization of buildings constructed in violation of building laws. The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee for regularization of illegally constructed buildings on Saturday.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, decided that all legal formalities in the regularization of such buildings would be fulfilled and the regularization fee would be determined keeping in view the capacity of people occupying such buildings.

In this regard, a sub-committee was constituted, which would prepare rules and regulations for regularization of illegal constructions, determine fee and other related details.

The sub-committee would be headed by Rauf Akhtar Farooqi. EDO Master Plan Ateeq Baig and City Council member Saifuddin would be other members of the sub-committee. It would submit its recommendations to the committee within a week.

The meeting further decided that stringent steps would be taken to check construction of all kinds of illegal buildings in future. In order to discourage illegal constructions in future, it was decided that a system would be devised with the participation of elected representatives.

Besides, the officials concerned in whose area illegal buildings/ structures would be constructed would be held responsible for the same. Among others, the meeting was attended by DCO Mir Hussain Ali, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Nazim Abdul Wahab, Firdaus Shamim Naqvi, Izharul Haq and Ansar Razi.

QUALITY CONTROL: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has constituted a coordination and implementation committee to ensure implementation of food and quality control laws. Sajjad Ahmed and Dr Laeeq Ahmed would be convener and secretary of the committee. Dr Imran Hamid and Zakiur Rahman would be its members.

According to the terms of reference, the committee would suggest and take necessary steps for effective implementation of food and quality control laws. The committee would prepare by- laws for quality control system and prepare a licensing system for production and sale of all food items within the limits of city district government. -APP/PPI
