KARACHI, July 30: The law-enforcement agencies in the city remained on a high-alert in view of terrorism threat on Friday, while extra security was witnessed at mosques and Imambargahs.

The Sindh Home department on Thursday had warned that some activists of a banned organization, Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, were planning to carry out suicidal bomb attacks in Imambarghas and mosques on Friday.

To carry out attacks they could use the services of women activists as well, the police had feared. Extra ordinary security measures were witnessed in the areas dominated by the Shia community.

In Ancholi, special security measures were witnessed and faith fuls were frisked by volunteers. Parking of vehicles near the mosques was not allowed by the respective town administrations. In Abbas Town, located at Abul Hasan Isphani Road, volunteers carried out the physical search of the faith fuls.

Outside Masjide Yasrab in Defence Phase-IV, road was blocked and vehicles were parked across the road. Police was seen searching the people coming to offer Friday prayers.

High security was also witnessed around the Mehfile Shahe Khurasan at Britto Road, where a large number of law-enforcing personnel had taken up positions. A similar situation was seen outside the Khoja Masjid in Kharadar, where the faithful queued up for physical search before being allowed entry into the mosque. Outside the Coast Guards' mosque, located at Sarwar Shaheed Road, a queue was witnessed as army personnel checked the faithful with scanner.
