KARACHI, July 29: A high-level CDGK meeting, presided over by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, on Thursday reviewed progress on the construction of flyovers and roads being carried out under Tameer-i-Karachi Programme (TKP). The meeting also discussed hurdles in the way of the development projects.

DCO Mir Hussain Ali, EDO Revenue Mohammad Wasim and representatives of the City Nazim Salim Azhar, Abid Ilyas and Goharul Islam, besides officials of Works and Services Department, KPT, Steel Mill, Water Board, PTCL and other departments, attended the meeting.

The meeting was told that a flyover would be constructed in Quaidabad, Landhi, and construction work on the project would be started in September this year. Regarding Hino Chowk, Korangi, the meeting was informed that the design plan of the project had been approved and tenders would be called soon.

About progress on Mai Kolachi section of Northern By-pass, the meeting was told that design work of the passage from Shahrah-i-Roomi to Submarine roundabout had been completed and preparation for calling tenders was in final stage whereas tenders have been called for the construction work on M. T. Khan Road from Jinnah Bridge to Lovers Bridge.

The meeting reviewed progress on the construction of the road from Shahrah-i-Mehran to Port Qasim and Korangi 8,000 Road. It also held a detailed discussion on improving traffic system on M. A. Jinnah Road and I. I. Chundrigar Road.

The city nazim told the officials that the task of the improvement work should be taken on a priority basis for which cooperation from all stakeholders in the Karachi could be sought.

He directed the participants of the meeting to chalk out a plan for improving traffic system from Keamari to Old Numaish intersection. He informed the officials that all stakeholders, prominent among them being the KPT, Steel Mill and a few other major organizations, had assured the CDGK of their support in accomplishing the TKP.

He expressed his confidence that after completion of the projects, people would feel a significant improvement in the city's traffic system. Naimatullah Khan said that all civic agencies under and associated with the city government were fully participating in executing the TKP projects.

The DCO urged officials of all departments to improve the coordination between each of them in order to remove hurdles in the way of execution and and timely completion of development projects. The city nazim asked officials of the Water and Sanitation Department, KESC, PTCL and other departments to sort out the problems confronting development projects. -PPI
