KARACHI, July 20: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed the authorities concerned that the inter-city bus termini be shifted outside the city by the end of September and the four proposed bus termini be activated during the period.

He issued this directive while chairing a high-level meeting at the Governor's House on Monday. Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Transport Minister Adil Siddiqui, Adviser on Local Government Wasim Akhtar, Information Adviser Salahuddin Haider, Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani, DIG Traffic Mohammad Yamin Khan and other senior officials attended the meeting.

The governor cautioned that disciplinary action would be initiated against any official found involved in dereliction of duty or slackness. He said that the matter pertaining to the inter-city bus termini was under consideration for quite sometime and it was a high time to give this a final shape.

The meeting reviewed various measures for re-routing of traffic, elimination of encroachment from roundabouts and roads, effective implementation of traffic laws to ensure smooth flow of vehicular movement in the city.

In this connection, the governor directed that a strategy as well as a timetable be chalked out within a week. The meeting decided in principle that it would be made obligatory for the buses and minibuses to operate according to the route permit.

It was also decided that by changing the Lucky Star route and re-route the buses heading for Tower would help checking the rush of traffic in Saddar. The governor stressed that necessary notifications in this respect be issued immediately.

To ensure smooth flow road traffic near Cantonment Railway Station and to check the illegally parked vehicles there, the governor gave a week's time to the officials concerned. He said that steps were also being taken for the revival of Karachi Circular Railway.

He stated that a decision in this respect would be taken jointly by the federal, provincial and district governments. Ishratul Ibad ordered to ensure visible improvement in flow of traffic around Jinnah hospital and action be taken against the vehicles with tinted glasses.

He directed the DIG Traffic to monitor the implementation of the traffic rules during the peak traffic hours. He further directed that all the illegal bus termini be removed, bus stops be clearly identified and action be initiated in against violators.

Earlier, DIG Traffic and EDO Traffic gave details about the various aspects of traffic management. It was pointed out that the model bus terminus would be set up on Aug 14 in SITE. The meeting was informed that the work was also in progress for activating four termini at Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Model Colony, Orangi and near Abdullah College.-APP
