KARACHI, July 20: A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani on Tuesday discussed the ADB-funded projects, including establishment of an independent prosecution service, restructuring of food department, expansion of ombudsman office.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Syed Anwar Haider told the meeting that matters relating to the provision of funds for an independent prosecution service in Sindh had been finalized.

The home and law departments had submitted two summaries to the chief minister for approval, according to which the Civil Prosecution Service would be managed by law department and the Criminal Prosecution by the provincial home department, he said.

Law Secretary Ghulam Nabi Shah said the department had finalized all arrangements to implement the decision. The chief secretary directed the official to submit a final report to him by Aug 31.

He also directed Finance Secretary Asrar Malik to visit other provinces and examine the facilities and privileges enjoyed by judiciary there. Sindh Food Secretary Nadar Markhiani was directed to take steps for restructuring of the food department by Dec 31.

It was also directed that the definite proposals about the Seed Distribution Strategy should be furnished by Aug 31. Additional Chief Secretary Sarwar Kherro said that as per presentation by the ombudsman to the governor, different regions, comprising two to three districts, would be created to appoint regional ombudsmen. -PPI
