LAHORE, June 30: Armed robbers on Wednesday looted over Rs6 million in three strikes in the city. The two hits were made by the miscreants when their victims were on the way after drawing the money from banks.

Under the relevant law, the police insist that people are bound to inform the area police in advance in case of a transaction of over Rs500,000.

In the first incident, property dealer Liaquat Ali together with three friends drew Rs4 million from a bank in Chungi Amar Sadhu. They boarded two cars and were on their way to Burki when three men riding a motorcycle intercepted their vehicles. Armed men held them hostage and made away with the money.

Ishfaq Ahmad drew Rs2.1 million from a bank on The Mall. He was on his way home when three robbers held him up at Patiala Ground in Gowalmandi. They snatched the money from him and sped away.

Salaries worth Rs15,000 of Wapda employees were taken away while Rs600,000 remained intact in another strike in Ghazi-abad. The Wapda staff of Harbans-pura was taking the salaries to their office when two gunmen held them hostage. In haste, the gangsters could take away only one bag containing Rs15,000, the staff informed the police.
