KARACHI, June 21: The city police chief was directed to find out the whereabouts of the pesh imam of a mosque by a division bench of Sindh High Court comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Zia Pervez on Monday.
Earlier, Sindh Additional Advocate General Abbas Ali appeared before the court along with two DSPs and submitted written statements by DSP Raja Umar Khattab and DSP Qazi Chand Muhammad on behalf of SSP AVCC and other high officials.
The raid, arrest and custody of the alleged detenue Maulana Amanullah Rais was denied in these statements. Ibrahim Rais, father of the detenue filed the petition stating that a police party raided his house on June 12 and took away the detenue for some inquiry.
According to the petitioner, he sent telegrams to all highups in Sindh government informing them of illegal detention of Amanullah Rais, prayer leader of Baghdadi mosque. Amanullah Rais is accused of instigation Akbar Niazi, the suicide bomber, who carried out attack in Hyderi Mosque in May.
On Monday, the bench expressed dismay that if he (Amanullah) was not in custody as averred by the respondent police officials why the whereabouts of a citizen who went missing for so many days could not be traced. On AAG's assurance that serious efforts would be made to find the missing person, the court put off hearing till June 23.
CHILD'S CUSTODY: Justice Ataur Rahman of Sindh High Court, on Monday, handed over custody of a child to his mother. The bench was hearing a petition filed by Fouzia Andaleeb, mother of Sumair Ahmed who was born on April 11, 2004.
The petitioner submitted that the infant was a suckling baby and his life was in danger due to poor nutrition. She alleged that Irfan Ahmed took away Sumair forcibly on April 17. The respondent appeared before the court along with Sumair. Handing over the custody of the child to his mother, the bench directed the respondent to seek remedy from Guardian and Ward court, relevant court in this case. -APP
