KARACHI, June 20: Dirty water coming out from choked sewerage lines and storm water drains often remain stagnant on various major roads and streets, causing hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic , besides presenting an ugly sight to passers by.
Such filthy sights could be seen on main University Road, near Busy Bee Restaurant - from Jauhar Morr to Jauhar Chowrangi - parts of Jehangir Road, Burnes Road, Lea Market and different streets of various localities.
Sewage water, on one hand, was causing damage to roads, and on the other, was polluting the environment of affected localities. According to Gulshan Town Administration sources, the University Road's storm water drain often remained choked mainly because of dumping of oily and greasy material by mechanics, who undertake repair of jumbo-sized up-country bound buses, that often remain parked on the storm water drain and its adjacent pavement.
Accusing the Faisal Cantonment of not taking measures to bring an end to the menace of overflowing gutters within its jurisdiction, Amir Jamaat-i-Islami, district East Shamim Pasha, said it was because of the wrong policies of cantonment officials that a major portion of Gulistan-i-Jauhar's major road (from Jauhar Morr to Jauhar Chowrangi) often remained submerged.
Accusing the Faisal Cantonment of failing to resolve the basic problems of people residing in those localities, falling under its jurisdiction, the JI leader demanded of the government to hand over cantonment areas to city government, so that their problems could be solved without let and hindrance.
