ISLAMABAD, May 21: The chairman Pakistan Muslim League, Raja Mohammad Zafarul Haq, said here on Tuesday that Pakistan now faces threats to its security and the situation calls for immediate, concrete and effective measures.

In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, he said that it is all the more necessary that the government review its internal priorities, sincerely initiate the process of “ genuine national reconciliation” in order to clear the environment of tension and polarization created during the past two-and-a-half years.

Mr Haq said that as a first step towards this end, Gen Pervez Musharraf ought to rise above his personal ego for the sake of national security, and start serious consultation with genuine political leadership, particularly with Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif.

The second step should be the release of all political prisoners, including Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, without any exception.

It is an undeniable fact that only the popular political leadership, with guidance of Almighty Allah, can forge national unity turning the country into an invincible fort, and steer it safely away from the dangers that it faces.

The presence of popular political leadership in the country will also encourage the world community to press India for resolving disputes through bilateral dialogue, and thus save the subcontinent from a nuclear holocaust.
